I have learnt (the hard way), the single MOST important tip for a stress-free landlord experience is to DO A CREDIT CHECK!!

I can not stress that enough.

The very best way to avoid stress as a Landlord is to avoid bad tenants.......period!

Once they have moved into your rental, it wont matter how many gift baskets or how much respect you give them.............its too late. You will have to go thru an expensive, lengthy, stressful,l one sided eviction process (with little hope of getting any money back as Ontario's laws favor tenants).

Most small landlords do not conduct credit checks and bad tenants know this. That is why they look for small inexperienced landlords who do business on good faith and a handshake (without a credit check).

As a landlord the Tenant has more right than the landlord .You can lose your house and the system do not care about it .
The Tenant Laws will let that happen to you. This is to let the Owner to know that ,and the Government is allowing that to happen
And something has to the system.
