Municipal Taxes in Winnipeg are somewhat reasonable for residential properties. A typical $350,000 three bedroom bungalow
has municipal taxes of about $2,000 and the same amount for school taxes. A business property attracts taxes of between 3-4% of the
assessed value or roughly 3 times the residential rate. Part of the difference is the portioning component of 65% 0f value versus 45% of
value for commercial property. The rest of the difference is that residential properties get a discount on the school tax of $700.00 and now
seniors get even more of a discount and residential properties no longer contribute to post secondary education while commercial properties do.

Municipalities and provincial governments have failed to realize that jobs create tax pools and when businesses or manufacturing plants
close nobody bothers to figure out why they close. The taxes that commercial enterprises pay before they make money are much more
damaging than the taxes paid on profits. Those taxes can shutter many businesses and they do. We have a further Business Tax and Payroll Tax to further spank those who wish to run an enterprise. The Federal Government does not harm enterprise but local governments surely do. That is how I feel about that.
