Consumer and tax watch dog agencies have been calling for successive governments to drop the tax they impose on gas and install a flat fee eg. 10 cents per litre. The governments have always resisted this idea and of course enjoyed the increasing revenue stream that a % of the price that resulted with ever higher gas prices. Now that the price is falling they are crying poor because the fixed percentage is resulting in a reduction of skimmed dollars. I won't be shedding any tears soon. My real regret is that none of this money is going to the purpose it was imposed, ie. road building and maintenance.
