The Net Zero Energy homes are designed, modelled and constructed to produce as much energy as it consumes on an annual basis. A Net Zero Energy Ready rating is also available for homes that meet the standards but buyers will be responsible for installing renewable energy generation.
The recognition program is a pilot by the CHBA and awards have been made to Reid’s Heritage Homes (Net Zero Energy) and Lucchetta Homes (Net Zero Energy Ready).
CEO of the CHBA Kevin Lee commented that Canadian homebuyers are looking for energy efficient homes and this labelling scheme helps with confirmation of these homes’ credentials.
