Leader Elizabeth May was visiting a housing project in Burnaby Tuesday and said that investment in social housing was key to the party’s pledge.
“It is no longer acceptable for Canadians, that any of us should live without adequate housing," she said. "Housing is a human right, and in Canada, as a wealthy country we simply have no more excuses for our failure to ensure housing.”
May said that, although there are initiatives in some parts of the country to tackle housing issues, it needs a coordinated response in order to provide social housing and tackle wider affordability.
“Younger Canadians seeking their first roof over their head find themselves in housing markets where the value of houses have been skewed by foreign investment,” she said.
