Throughout its years of building a franchise network across Canada, St. Louis Bar and Grill has created a proven formula for success. Since 2002, Canadian investors have reaped the benefits of partnering with the franchisor to build their own businesses. One of the cornerstones of St. Louis’ success has been finding franchise partners with strong local community knowledge and connections. “When we open in places like Kingston, Belleville or Barrie, we like to have people from that community getting involved,” says Steve Drexler, President, St. Louis Franchise. “Having someone from Toronto opening a store in Kingston is not something we recommend. We like people to have roots in the community. It not only helps the business, but it boosts the investor’s ability to enjoy their lifestyle.”
The company’s nimble approach has also been a major factor in its growth. Drexler describes the company as being “opportunity driven” and believes the business model is well-suited to investors with the same ambitions and mindset.
“There is nothing cookie cutter about St. Louis; We don't have a model that states that every store must look the exact same,” says Drexler. “We have a store as small as 1,100 square feet, and a store as big as 5,000 square feet. We are well positioned to grow. Right now, sell more draught beer per square foot in Ontario than anyone else. We also have one of the highest food to beverage ratios, which is clearly advantageous for investors.”
Drexler advises any hardworking Canadian at a crossroads in their career to give franchising investment meaningful consideration. It’s a decision that might just lead to the financial and personal freedom that everyone is looking for.
“If someone has a level of dissatisfaction in their current situation, or they feel have committed years with inadequate returns, then franchising could be great option,” he says. “It has been one of the greatest wealth generators of any concept in all of North America. It is not without risk as with any investment, but if you have a passion then it is probably the right investment for you.”
