An Edmonton company is hoping to help boost the proliferation of garage suites in the city by shipping a ready-made solution. Honomobo is using converted shipping containers which are turned into homes at their factory near Stony Plains and delivered to homeowners.

Just 31 permits have been issued for garage suites in Edmonton since the rules were changed to allow them on any lot of at least 400 square metres and Honomobo’s founder Dan Engelman told the Edmonton Journal that the suites, which can fit on top of an existing garage, offer a flexible approach as homeowners can take them with them if they move.
