Vancity credit union’s survey shows that over the past five years, charitable donations in the province have fallen 20 per cent with 82 per cent of respondents citing low incomes and increased cost of living among their reasons for reduced generosity. More than a third specifically blamed housing costs.
Most respondents (81 per cent) said that housing in their area has worsened in the last three years and 69 per cent say that their household income has fallen below the rise in the cost of living.
On their personal finances, 43 per cent of respondents said they have got worse over the past four years.
