Quebec has launched a new real estate brokers association

by Steve Randall01 Feb 2019

Quebec now has a new association representing brokers and agents in the province.

The Quebec Professional Association of Real Estate Brokers (QPAREB) represents more than 12,500 brokers and agencies and was formed after the Greater Montreal (GMREB), Quebec City (CIQ) and Laurentides (CIL) real estate boards held general meetings in October in which more than 96% of real estate brokers voted in favour of a merger.

"Our goal is to bring real estate brokers together in a new provincial association model that will become the only organization in Quebec dedicated to promoting our profession and defending and protecting our interests with government authorities," said Christiane St-Jean, co-president of the QPAREB. "We can now speak with a united, credible and consistent voice to better address the issues facing our profession."

The presidents of the three legacy boards will serve as co-presidents of the new association, which will hold its inaugural annual general meeting in April this year.

Headquartered in Quebec with administrative offices in Montreal, the association is the parent of Centris Inc. and the Collège de l'immobilier du Québec.

Members of the Chambre immobilière de Saint-Hyacinthe are QPAREB members after the organization ceased operations in June 2018 and the new association’s ranks also include member brokers of the Chambre immobilière de la Haute-Yamaska who voted to  dissolve their board in order to join.
