Now the self-styled Kitec Crusader says the government should give a tax credit to the estimated 500,000 condo owners who face thousands of dollars in repair costs.
Claude Boiron, of Royal LePage Terrequity Realty - Boiron Group says that the scale of those affected by the failed plumbing is potentially far larger than has been acknowledged.
"I don't think anyone has really sat down to crunch the numbers on how potentially widespread an issue the Kitec crisis could be for Canadians," he said.
The 17-year Toronto real estate veteran wants the government to act, especially as Kitec was considered up to federal and provincial building codes at the time.
"Approving Kitec for widespread use was a failure of both the federal and provincial government to protect condo and homeowners," added Boiron. "We have warranties for construction deficiencies on new buildings, why can't the government step in and make this right for the thousands of Canadians hit with massive and unexpected repair bills?"
