Le Pas de Deux Housing Project Receives Federal and Provincial Support

A charming white two-story house with brown-shingled roofs, tucked gracefully among trees and greenery, almost like a scene from Le Pas de Deux. The home features several picturesque windows and two stately chimneys.

On August 9, 2024, the governments of Quebec and Canada, along with the City of Terrebonne, officially inaugurated the Le Pas de Deux housing project in Terrebonne, Quebec. This project comprises ten housing units specifically designed for young adults living with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or similar conditions.

The total investment in the Le Pas de Deux project amounted to $4.7 million. The Quebec government’s Société d’Habitation du Québec (SHQ) contributed $2.7 million through the AccèsLogis Québec program, which included $1.7 million from the federal government under the Canada-Quebec Rapid Housing Initiative Agreement. The City of Terrebonne also played a significant role, contributing around $1 million, including land valued at over $439,000.

Le Pas de Deux offers ten one-bedroom units within a supervised residence that operates 24/7. In addition to private living spaces, the planned construction will provide residents with access to an on-site common room for a sense of community. An agreement with the Centre Intégré de Santé et de Services Sociaux de Lanaudière ensures that residents receive essential services to support their needs.

Residents of the Le Pas de Deux housing units also benefit from the SHQ’s Rent Supplement Program. This program ensures that eligible households will not spend more than 25% of their income on housing, with the SHQ covering 90% of the rent supplement and the City of Terrebonne covering the remaining 10%.
