Lighter Side: Could Toronto or Vancouver be featured in the new Monopoly?

by CRE on 20 Feb 2015
If your very first experience as a landlord was charging rent to your little brother when he landed on Pennsylvania Avenue with four of your houses, then you’re likely an enthusiast of the popular board game Monopoly.

To celebrate the game’s 80th anniversary, its parent company Hasbro is asking fans to choose which great cities around the world should be featured as property spaces in its latest edition.

From Montreal to Toronto to Calgary to Vancouver, Canadian fans can get behind their favourite investment hotspots, hometowns or vacation spots.

The Monopoly Here & Now property space vote is currently open until March 4. Property and board game enthusiasts can share their vote on Facebook or Twitter, using the hashtag #VoteMonopoly.

During ‘Wild Card Week’, from March 3 to 9, all cities big and small will have the chance to compete for two spaces.

Perhaps this is the opportunity to get less well-known Canadian cities onto the board, such as investment hotspots Hamilton or Fort St John.

The final list of cities that will be featured in the new board game will be announced on March 19.
