Being a skillful negotiator is essential for real estate agents but when it comes to selling homes it’s not the most important skill.

For commercial real estate agents, negotiation is the top skill according to a survey by the National Association of Realtors. But real estate agents south of the border rank ‘people skills’ as the quality they believe is the most vital for selling homes.

For the residential sector negotiation skills were pushed into third place behind self-motivation.

The survey also revealed that women (U$46.7k median) tend to earn less than their male counterparts ($54.6k) and that agents from an Asian or Pacific Islands heritage earn more than other ethnicities.
